Dr Claudia Wong and Dr Mike Woodward
Owners and Veterinarians
Dr. Claudia and Dr. Mike are the owners and veterinarians of Mountain Animal Hospital. They purchased the clinic in June 2023 from Dr. John McKenzie and are proud to continue the long history of independent ownership since 1954.
Dr. Claudia and Dr. Mike met as students at the Ontario Veterinary College. Dr. Claudia started at Mountain in March of 2019, and Dr. Mike joined part time in the fall of 2021. He became full time in May of 2022 when Dr. Claudia went on maternity leave.
Dr. Claudia has a special interest in pet nutrition. As a vet student, she worked in the Ontario Veterinary College’s Clinical Nutrition Service, assisting their team of board certified veterinary nutritionists and nutrition residents with complex nutritional cases and formulating complete and balanced homemade diets. She loves talking to owners about nutrition, whether it’s helping owners understand common myths and misconceptions about pet food or creating individualized plans to help pets achieve a healthy body condition or manage chronic conditions.
While Dr. Claudia loves talking all things preventive care, Dr. Mike has a passion for surgery and dentistry. He has completed additional hands-on dentistry training through the NAVC Institute to ensure he is providing the most up-to-date oral health care to our patients. He has also done several ultrasound courses and looks forward to offering more point-of-care ultrasound options at the clinic.
Dr. Claudia and Dr. Mike currently have two pets, a diabetic Pug mix named Jibs and a diabetic cat named Borpo. As you may guess, they are always happy to chat diabetes and to reassure the families of newly-diagnosed diabetic pets that they can live long and healthy lives!
Kathryn
Registered Veterinary Technician
Kathryn has worked at Mountain since graduating from the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus in 2000. She has been a familiar face to our clients ever since and she prides herself on the wonderful relationships she has built with our amazing clients. When she’s not at the clinic, her husband and three children, her kitty Hazel Clementine, and her house plant obsession fill her days. She also loves going on camping trips, strolls in nature, or simply having a good coffee with family and friends.
Emily
Registered Veterinary Technician
Emily graduated from the Veterinary Technology program at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus in June 2022 and joined us at Mountain shortly after. Between semesters at Ridgetown, Emily worked at the Brant County SPCA. Ever since she was young, she knew she wanted to work with animals. Her favourite part of being a veterinary technician is puppy and kitten visits, though she particularly loves seeing all the big doggos! Outside of the clinic, she enjoys baking, crochet, and spending time with her family and her own big doggo, Dexter. Dexter loves going for hikes, watching movies with his humans, and eating everything in sight (classic Lab!)
Sammy
Registered Veterinary Technician (on mat leave)
Sammy has been a Registered Veterinary Technician at Mountain since 2022 but we’ve known her even before she graduated because she was a client first! While talking to Dr Claudia one day, she mentioned that she had adopted a Beagle named Shimmer from the Veterinary Technology program, and that she was actually a student there and would soon be graduating. She did one of her placements here and has been working with us ever since. She also has a torti named Bailey and a dilute ginger named Calcifer. Sammy and her husband Kevin enjoy going to the cottage and kayaking, canoeing, and hiking with Shimmer. Sammy also loves reading all genres and is a self-professed extreme movie buff!
Allison
Client Care Specialist
Allison joined our team in February 2024. Hamilton born and raised, she is looking forward to connecting with her home community once again and developing strong client connections. She has a special interest in dog training, animal behaviour, and pet enrichment (for various species!)
Outside of the clinic, you will find her spending time with her family: husband, daughter, dog, cat, and a bird. Some of her favourite activities include nature/pet photography, hiking, and developing her green thumb.
